Strengthening Resilience
The main school assemblies this week have been taken by our Head of Standards, Safeguarding and SEND Mrs Ash and have focussed on the really important aspect of developing resilience.
All of us at some stage will have to dig deep when things in life don’t go quite as expected and that is when resilience is so important.
Students watched an inspiring media clip about a young person who, despite having a severe stammer, demonstrated the resilience to persevere in preparing for the speaking component of their English GCSE. Sheer grit and determination, a ‘never give up’ attitude and a growth mindset were key to the incredible success shown in the video.
All these character traits are what we endeavour to encourage and develop in all students at BMS, so it was a particular important assembly.
Mrs Ash provided lots of good advice about how to develop strong resilience including: eating well, sleeping, talking to others and sharing any concerns or worries, getting exercise, being understanding and kind to yourself, finding time to relax and remaining positive were some of the important things she covered.
Do talk to your children about how they are getting on in developing their resilience and do contact the pastoral team if any further support or advice is needed.
