It is the time again for the Yr8 girls to partake in the CyberFirst Competition 2025-2026 run by the NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre). This is the government’s initiative to encourage more girls to consider computer science as a GCSE option at school and a career in cyber security.

This year, the competition runs from 1st December 2025 to 10th December 2025. The participants would have to complete challenges online in 10 days by using their Internet searching skills and some computing knowledge. They would learn cyber security as they went through the challenges.

We have four Year 8 participants and even though we have not had many girls, they showed much enthusiasm to solve the challenges.

The girls have been solving problems and at the same time, they learnt new computing knowledge such as networking, encryption, Scratch programming skills, Python programming skills, Assembly language programming skills and HTML web language.
We are very grateful to have three IT STEM ambassadors to help the girls with some of the expert challenges. We are looking forward to the girls’ final scores when the winning teams are announced.

We also thank the teachers’ support that they allowed the students to leave their lessons in order to complete this competition.
