It was a privilege to join our Key Stage Coordinator for Science Mrs Siddiqui’s class last week and see how well they were engaging in the learning and making progress as great scientists in the school. Their work in books showed real pride in their learning and the marking and feedback that had taken place was excellent. Feedback sheets provided after a major test were really useful in summarising overall marking trends and identifying clear next steps for each individual student. There was evidence of a range of stickers used (peer and self) and detailed teacher marking with good purple pen responses demonstrating improvement in learning and achievement.

All students in the class understood that marking each other’s work also helped their own understanding and learning. An effective peer assessment task at the end of the lesson was very well managed and really supported students to understand what their next steps should be. Overall the ethos and culture in the classroom and the embedded routines, along with Mrs Siddiqui’s high expectations and focus on praise and rewards led to great learning taking place. The display of and for learning was also excellent and really helped to create a lovely environment for learning; this included a brilliant Up for the Challenge board.

I would like to congratulate all the students for their high engagement and excellent progress.
