Well what a whirlwind few weeks it has been for our resident band ‘Fused’ who seemingly cannot put a foot wrong.
You may be aware of my lamentations regarding their recent ‘battle of the bands’ win in which they bagged themselves a healthy haul of prizes including a day’s recording, a brand new microphone, and the opening slot at the ‘summer of arts’ festival in Buntingford, which I was fortunate enough to attend.
In addition to this, each of the boys became the proud receivers of the coveted ‘Executive Principal’s Award’ here at Bushey Meads.
So, I think you will agree that it is very safe to say that, so far this summer, things have gone swimmingly for the quartet. You may even find yourself asking “could things get any better?”
This is, perhaps, the very question that the boys probably found themselves pondering as they finished their set on the stage in Buntingford with raucous applause ringing in their ears.
Well, in short, the answer to that question was “yes”.
The event organisers took to the stage to thank the band and congratulate them on another assured performance. All four of them had wide grins as they revelled in their most recent triumph. Grins that evaporated as the next announcement was made. Grins that were replaced with expressions of shock and disbelief as they were told they had now been invited to play an even bigger festival. A ‘proper’ festival.
The festival in question is ‘Standon Calling’. A festival which attracts tens of thousands of people each year and hosts some of the biggest names in music. The stuff of dreams for a young, up-and-coming musician. Just have a look at the festival’s pamphlet!
The news sent the surroundings into slow motion as band members, family members, friends and myself erupted into a cheer that must have travelled across Hertfordshire.
This was a huge opportunity and we all knew it.
The trajectory of ‘Fused’ continues and if the four of them keep up their dedication and hard work then there is no knowing where it may stop.
Luca, Sam, Toby, and Jake…you have once again done yourselves, your loved ones and your school proud.

In the meantime, you will find them in the music block here at Bushey Meads most break and lunchtimes. Why not pop along and ask them all about it
