BASKETBALL
Senior Boys v GRANGE ACADEMY (District League) HOME Mr Cartledge
Date: Wednesday 28th January 2026
Result: Lost 44-20
Scorers : A Yu 11, H Chouhan 5, C Keough 2, S Harries 2
Squad: Sam Fard (Capt) (13), Sam Harries (13), Charles Keough (13). Jake Coady (12), Mathew Tregear (12), Kian Pamplona (12), Hamzah Chohan (12), Justin Akuoko (12), Arthur Yu (11), John Stylianou (13)
Commended performances : A Yu
Comment : The Senior Boys basketball team were beaten by a strong Grange team in the opening match of the season. A lack of focus on defence in the first quarter saw the Grange team go into an early lead which they continued to extend throughout the game. Some excellent outside shooting by A Yu was the highlight of the BMS performance with improvement needed on offence and defence moving forward.
Year 10 Boys v Westfield (District League) HOME Mr Cartledge
Date: Monday 26th January 2026
Result: Lost 33-37
Scorers : S McGrath 10, F Gee 8, B Spencer 6, D Snowden 5, R Hodgson 4
Squad: D Snowden, R Hodgson, F Gee, R Doran, M Appa, K Johnson, B Spencer, S McGrath, R Payne
Commended performances : R Hodgson, F Gee
Comment : The Year 10 boys lost a really competitive opening match of the season and can be pleased with their efforts. After falling 8 points behind early in the 1st quarter the boys showed improved offence and defence to close the scores going into the 2nd quarter. Some lapses of concentration on defence cost the boys in the 2nd quarter but again great spirit and effort saw the boys close the game to within 2 points in the final quarter before narrowly losing by 4 points. The ability to score from close to the basket the difference between the 2 teams.
Year 7 Boys v WESTFIELD (District League) HOME Mr Harris
Date: Tuesday 27th January 2026
Result: Won 22-18
Scorers : S Frigot 6, G O’Dea 6, L Miller 4,S Scott 4, E Munslu 2
Squad: L Miller, G Mulholland, G O’Dea, S Parmar, P Karagulian, E Munslu, S Frigot, S Scott, O Lankshear, J Leung
Commended performances : All
Comment: A good performance from the Year 7 boys in their first basketball match. A hotly contested game against a strong Westfield side. A game that was even at the end of the first, second and third. Only to be decided in the final quarter, where the boys really moved the ball well and scored a number of baskets. On the night, it was also an excellent night with our rebounding winning many of them and making a quick counter. A good performance all round, quickly onto our next fixture on Thursday night vs Grange.

FOOTBALL
Year 9A Boys v LONGDEAN (County Plate) AWAY Mr Cartledge
Date : Friday 23rd January 2026
Result : Won 6-1
Scorers : A Cohen 4, R Samin, G Fogden
Squad : O Woodbrock (GK), O Phillips (Capt), J Magkafourakis, C Allan, G Jabarkhail, G Fogden, A Cohen, Z Butler, D Henry, R Samin, D Mason, M Rawlings, D Isles
Commended performances : Whole team !
Comment : An excellent all round performance by the Year 9 boys saw them move into the quarter-finals of the County Plate competition with a comfortable 6-1 win over Townsend School. An excellent opening 10 minutes saw the boys create numerous chances which they failed to convert. However a good finish from A Cohen moved the boys into a 1-0 lead only for Townsend to quickly equalise. The boys were not phased by this and managed to go back in front with a goal from R Samin. In the 2nd half the team continued to control the game creating many chances. Improved finishing in the 2nd half was rewarded with 4 more goals and a place in the next round. Special mention to A Cohen who scored 4 goals in the game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Year 7 Girls – Tournament @ Queens School- Mrs Cartledge
Date: Thursday 22nd January 2026
Results: 3rd ( 6.teams )
Squad: E Ivory, M Taylor, A Gray, TG Cole, A Karakushi, C Ellis, T Walker- Hasier
Comment: This was the first experience of basketball matches for all the students. For the first few matches players adapted to the rules and the differences in the game from netball. As the tournament progressed passing improved, attacking play improved and the girls play really began to respond well defensively from an attack down court. All students were a credit to the school and deserved their 3rd place working very hard and showing excellent sportsmanship.
Well done to all players.
GIRLS NETBALL
Year 9 VS FUTURES ACADEMY – Miss Sunpongco
Date: Tuesday 27th January 2026
Results: Lost 9 – 3
Squad: M. Grund, M. Milla, E. Hughes, E. Gillett, A. Terinte-Olteanu, D. Vinoth and Y. Galapaththige.
Comment: One of the last matches in the year for the team along with a new team mate. The team was very excited as in the previous years. As the match started, the girls got into rhythm quickly, with the first centre pass working its way to goal. There were many interceptions as the defence was working tirelessly to ensure coverage of the opponents shooters. They were doing this well, making it very difficult for the opponent to get the ball in the third. When they did, BMS defense made sure to get the rebounds and get the ball down court within 2-3 passes. As the game went on, the opposition started to work out the tactics BMS was using and made it much more difficult to get the ball to our shooters. At the end of the match, the efforts to score were not quite enough but the scores did not reflect fully on how well the girls worked together. Well done all on a good game and well done M Grund for being chosen as the opposition’s POTM.
District Swim Gala (2) – Mrs Cooper
@ Habadashers Girls School
Date: Wednesday 28th January 2026
Squad: P.Soteriou, L.Soteriou, E.Ivory, G.Cole, S.Ollosson, H.Sugarnan, A.Karakushi.
Comment: Some great performances at the District Swim gala! Students from yr 7,8 and 10 took to the water to represent BMS at the second District Gala.
Competition was fierce with some very talented swimmers racing but the squad performed well with some good improvements in their performances from the previous competition.
It was great to see a couple of new faces representing the school and we look forward to the next event when we will have learnt from this experience and maybe found a few more swimmers!
Special mention to P.Sorteriou and L.Sorteriou who swam almost a full program with some impressive results and were great role models for the squad!
Results:
P.Sorteriou: 3x1st place, 3x2nd place
L.Sorteriou: 3x1st place, 2x2nd place
S.Ollosson: 1x2nd place, 2x4th place
G.Cole: 3x4th place
A.Karakushi: 1x3rd place 1x4th place
H.Sugarnan 1x5th place 1x4th place
