Annual student survey results by Sara Ash,...

During the summer term, we asked our students to complete the annual student survey, an important aspect of the student voice initiative at Bushey Meads School. Students are encouraged to reflect on their experiences and add comments to clarify their answers.

The results, and the hundreds of comments made, were analysed by the Senior Leadership Team and this helps to shape the strategic direction of the school as it moves forward.
The most positive responses were for the statements:
  • I am happy at this school
  • I feel safe at this school
  • I am making good progress at this school
  • I receive appropriate homework for my age
Some of the comments received showcase the many positive relationships and experiences that students have in school:
‘The teachers are kind and teach students well.’ Year 9 student

‘This school is fit for any student and teachers are very nice to new students.’ Year 7 student

‘I think we are looked after well.’ Year 8 student

Alongside the positives, the areas of further improvement were discussed at length looking at the concerns students raised. Mr Mitman, Assistant Headteacher, has worked with stakeholders to update the whole school Positive Behaviour for Learning policy which will be launched in September. This will help to address some of the areas raised by students.
