Amazing Art Work!

Our newly refurbished Main School Reception now proudly exhibits some stunning GCSE and A level art work. Four pieces by talented BMS artists T-Ala Marsh and Abirami Jalajan were chosen and now add a creative new dimension to the already very welcoming entrance area of our lovely school. Epitomising our school motto of Aspire to Achieve, we have already had many comments applauding the superb art work.

Do enjoy reading the explanations of the outstanding creations:

‘Recovery’

The piece is the second stage in a 3 Part series of discovering the true nature of a person. This stage ‘recovery’ has the intention to reveal the focused gaze of someone trying to escape a filtered life caused by mental health issues. The focus of the model is filtered through colour to represent a filtered sense of self and struggle through recovery to gain enlightenment.

‘Just a Boy in a Hoodie’

This piece represents gang culture and stereotypes of ethnic minority boys in gangs. The downward gaze captures the fear faced when in dangerous environments. The fragmented image, with additions of mixed media was inspired by the idea of broken homes – but at the centre and core of it all it is ‘just a boy in a hoodie’.

‘Eyes of Paris’

I wanted the Eyes to be the main focus as we see the beauty of the world around us through our eyes. I was inspired by the beauty of Paris both nature and architecture top create this piece for my GCSE Examination.

‘Who Are You?’

This piece is inspired by the artist Christophe Siel who often combines the concepts of nature with manipulation. The strong sense of structure is intended to demonstrate the structure of one’s self; the background incorporates parts of the model’s sense of herself with colours of warmth. The piece was created to question what makes us human – our nature, or external, societal personality stereotypes.
