A Level Dancers Step Into the World of...

At the end of last term, the Year 12 and 13 A-Level Dance students visited Rambert Dance Company for an enriching day that combined theory, professional insights and practical exploration. The trip offered a unique opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of dance through an engaging mix of activities.

The day began with an archive session, where students viewed protected video footage of Rambert’s past performances. This session allowed them to analyse the company’s historical impact and connect their theoretical studies to real-world dance works. The students explored how key dance concepts from their curriculum such as performance analysis and choreography, applied to these iconic works.

Following the archive session, the students were given a guided tour of the Rambert building. They visited the costumes department, learning about the intricate process of creating performance attire and had the chance to watch the professional dancers rehearsing for their next production after the success of Peaky Blinders. This behind-the-scenes experience provided a fascinating look at the creative process in a top-tier dance company.

The day concluded with a two-hour practical session where students developed their own choreography. Guided by experienced instructors, they experimented with movement, applying the theoretical knowledge from their course in a hands-on environment.

This visit allowed the students to bridge the gap between theory and practice, offering invaluable insights into the professional world of dance. It was an inspiring and motivational experience, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for the art form and a renewed sense of excitement for their own creative journeys.
