Staff at Bushey Meads School are always thinking of creative and innovative ways to increase student engagement in lessons and on Monday at Staff Briefing science teacher Mr Thornton was sharing a great tip with all teachers and learning assistants called ‘Snowballing’. The idea is that students write a question, or a response to a question on a piece of paper, screw it up into a snowball and throw it at an agreed spot. Aiming at the teacher always gets a good response! The snowballs can then be redistributed around the room for students to use in their ongoing learning journey through the lesson; questions can answered and shared with the class or a peer assessment opportunity can even be built around the snowball’s contents. All in all it was a fun way to start the week and reminded us how enjoyable learning can be.
