Avoiding the Summer Slide!
Whilst we want all our learners to have a good break from their studies and enjoy time with their friends and family, we are well aware of the summer slide; research indicates that students can, in some subjects, lose 30% of what they have learned in the previous year. Avoiding this was the topic and theme of the main school assemblies this week led by Associate Leader Mr Abusef.
Students reflected on what they had learned this year and how, by taking part in the BMS Get Ahead and Progress (GAP) Initiative, they can keep their brains ticking over during the summer break and engage in 20 well chosen tasks to broaden their learning and continue to achieve. Many of the GAP tasks are designed to support good physical and mental health, as well as to widen horizons and encourage broader studies.
All students who complete the GAP tasks will be awarded some prestigious certificates at various levels and will also get the chance to go on an amazing rewards trip in the Autumn Term.
As parents and carers download the GAP Tasks programme from the school website and support your children to balance their time during the long summer holiday and engage in this highly effective programme.
This link takes you to the website page where you can see specific year group related GAP Tasks across a range of subjects and the Get Ahead and Progress Card to complete:
