An Exciting Trip to the British Library!

Reading ‘Beowulf’ And exploring the topic of History of English in our English lessons has been an exciting experience. Students have been focused on villains and heroism within the story of Beowulf.

On Monday 27th November, year 7 students were given the opportunity to attend the British Library in London to visit their exhibition focussing on fantasy and the realms of imagination. Students journeyed through different fantasy landscapes, from a dark enchanted forest, the weird and uncanny, epic mountains and even using a portal to enter a new world! Students particularly enjoyed the experience in the ‘weird and uncanny’ area where students had the chance to have their senses altered in the projector room.

Students were also given the opportunity to develop their creative writing skills by using inspiration from around the exhibition to create their own hero. Students particularly enjoyed seeing the only surviving original manuscript from Beowulf but also being able to use references from video or board games around the exhibition to help support their creative writing.

We are looking forward to visiting the British Library again next week with year 8 to visit the Malorie Blackman Exhibition!
