International Women’s Day Event

On the 7th March, we took 7 students from years 9-10 to an event organized by Watford Football club. It was a day to celebrate the achievements of women across the world. One of the aims was to encourage action on issues of gender, equality by empowering all individuals no matter their gender. The Watford football club’s main theme was to celebrate women in football. From Physios to referees, players to managers. They showcased the work being done by women in football and presented them with information about the opportunities within the game.

The first event for the girls was a football training session which the girls really enjoyed. They then went into the press room at Watford and took part in discussions about gender inequality in leadership roles and strategies to encourage more women into these roles.
The third and fourth session involved a

shooting practice and a five aside game. The girls played really well and thoroughly enjoyed the practical sessions. After lunch a panel of four women which included the Watford player Helen Ward, the women’s football manager, a business lady who set up a football coaching program and a football tricks performer. The girls were able to ask questions to all the panel and see a range of jobs in the football industry. This was very inspirational and provided excellent role models for all the girls.
It was a fantastic day and the girls were a credit to the school .
