Challenge and a Growth Mindset

This week the Theme of Week was Challenge. In Character Development Time the students were discussing the importance of having a growth mindset.

“In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.”

As teachers and parents the language we use and the actions we take show our students about what you expect. Giving process praise, talking about the brain, accepting mistakes as learning opportunities, and understanding the role of emotions in learning are all practices you can begin today.

There are lots of resources about Growth Mindset and how we can encourage our children, the links below are the videos we have shown to the students this week.

The plastic brain – the science behind how our brain develops

An article I found interesting as a parent is linked below. It describes how our language impacts how we encourage our children and how we can instil a growth mindset at home.
