The number of vegans in Great Britain quadrupled between 2014 and 2019. In 2019 there were 600,000 vegans (1.21% of the population); 276,000 (0.46%) in 2016; and 150,000 (0.25%) in 2014. Source: “The Vegan Society’
In 2022, research by Ipsos found that 46% of Brits aged 16-75 are considering reducing their intake of animal products in the future.
Did you know that a meat eater will eat on average 4,500 fish, 80 turkeys and 30 sheep in their lifetime!
Animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation.
A dairy farm with 2,500 cows produces the same amount of waste as a city of 411,000 people.
These are just the environmental issues we have been looking at. We hope the meat we eat has been reared and transported in humane conditions but the Food Standard Agency reported a total of 9,511 animal welfare breaches between July 2017 and June 2018 – of which 4,445 were the most serious.
