In KS3 French lessons just before half-term, we were looking at the French festival of “la Chandeleur” which is held every year on 2nd February. Unlike our tradition of pancake day being on the last day before the start of the Christian period of Lent, the French eat “les crêpes” typically on this day of the year. Originally based on a Christian belief reminding people that Christ is the “light of the world”, nowadays French people eat “les crêpes” more for enjoyment than religious reasons. Some of our younger students enjoyed making their own versions and submitted their creations to our “Crêpe” Competition
