Last week, 20 year 12 and 13 students attended the Maths in Action event at the Emmanuel Centre.
Students enjoyed five talks by guest speakers on topics including Möbius strips and topology,
historical methods of writing numbers and probability and risk.
Tom in year 12 was brave enough to volunteer to go up on stage and take part in a bell ringing
permutations activity.

When asked about the trip, Tom said he most enjoyed the talk about Fermat’s Last Theorem, as he
had heard about it from an episode of the Simpsons and it “put his body at peace” to finally
understand it.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and represented the school to an excellent standard.
