Fun in Foreign Language Lessons at BMS
Last Friday Head of Faculty Mrs Charles reminded all staff of some excellent, engaging assessment for learning strategies used in language lessons at Bushey Meads. Not only were the activities shared, good fun to participate in, they reinforced key concepts and necessary vocabulary learning, but in a fun and active way.
The faculty’s use of mini whiteboards encourages maximum participation and allows the teachers to assess where the students are at in terms of their knowledge and understanding. Simple exit strategies such as using post it notes stuck under chairs provide a platform for future planning and for addressing common misconceptions.
Use of quiz-type buzzers and vocabulary simply fading away on the interactive whiteboard were two other key effective approaches highlighted in the Friday Faculty Foci. It was a great way to end the week with an important focus on learning and achievement and the clear sharing of proven strategies used in classrooms in MFL for all to try.
