If you enjoy reading for pleasure, why not join our group and be part of the judging process for the Carnegie Award Shadowers’ Choice?
Every year, the eight books selected as the best new books for young people are revealed and schools across the country enlist the help of students to read them and vote for their favourites. The scheme runs between March and June. Whilst the official Carnegie Award winner is chosen by a panel of librarians, there is another award for the one chosen by the shadowers themselves. After all, who is the best judge of what makes an exceptional reading experience for young people – adults or students?
Students who have taken part in the past say it exposed them to great books that they might not otherwise have picked up and therefore expanded their range of reading.
The scheme is open to students from all years; we have copies of all the books in the LRC as well as in ebook format on Sora. So, simply see me to sign up and make your vote count.
