Excellent AFL in Technology
This week, I had the pleasure of dropping into the Year 12 D&T lesson with Mr Chalkley. I visited as students were planning the projects that they were taking into their assignments later down the line. It was extremely interesting to hear the different projects that were being considered and how they may work. I was able to see some excellent questioning from Mr Chalkley throughout as well as students coming up with creative ideas based on various themes such as Entertainment, people, problem solving, time-saving and environment to name a few.
Ideas were being suggested including an automated water bowl for pets which was refilled when empty and was aware when animals were needed and therefore ensured that there was enough water for the animal. Mr Chalkley discussed the idea with the class and they fed back with some potential problems, one specific that they highlighted was water and electronics do not mix well as water can leak anywhere. It was an extremely thoughtful discussion throughout and left me thinking about what I would like project I would do if I were in the lesson. Year 12 students in this lesson were challenged to think outside the box and consider the wider impacts of their projects and how they can be beneficial to all. It was excellent to see so many students demonstrating their creative skills and also their problem solving skills.
