HEALTH WEEK
The final week of spring term was the school’s 12th annual whole school Health Week with all students in years 7-11 again completing their fitness testing. The aim of the week is to raise awareness about healthy lifestyles and for students to consider how their current lifestyle affects their own levels of fitness. Students in Years 7-11 all completed the Multistage fitness test to generate some fitness data to track if individual fitness levels are developing in the school. The results of the testing will be available via the Learning Gateway after easter. The attitude of the students towards the testing was excellent with a real supportive environment in the sports hall. Well done to all those students who improved their score from the previous year.
As part of the Health Week, on Wednesday 27th March the PE Faculty ran a day of recreational sport with students taking part in football, basketball, running, walking, “Just dance” and dodgeball activities. It was a great day with all students getting into the spirit of the event and over £1500 being raised for the British Heart Foundation Charity.
Flag Football
As part of our commitment to giving the students as broad a range of sporting opportunities as possible, on Tuesday we welcomed a coach from the London Jags US Flag Football initiative. Flag football is an emerging sport in the UK and incorporates the throwing and catching skills of US football in a fast paced invasion game. Groups from Y7, 8, 9 and 10 took part in some training drills to develop the basic skills with a view to setting up an extra-curricular club in the future. Students enjoyed the challenge of the new sport and we are also looking to further build it into the curriculum after groups have really enjoyed their experience of the sport in previous years. Well done to all the boys who took part.
Summer sports
The summer term sees the start of the athletics, cricket and rounders seasons with the first County League Athletics match taking place on Thursday 2nd May. The PE Faculty are offering a range of recreational and team practice sports clubs this term which are open to all students to get involved in. The extra-curricular timetable for next week is shown below :
