Exemplary Assessment for Learning in the PE...
Last week on Monday morning our Head of Girls PE – Ms Cooper and Head of Faculty, PE & Health – Mr Cartledge led the Monday Magic Moment for all staff in the Main Hall, sharing some embedded and excellent techniques used across the faculty to assess students’ work and provide that all-important feedback and advice to make those next steps in the journey of learning and achievement.
Concepts related to the ‘Head Hands Heart’ model of assessment in the faculty are reinforced in lessons and support students in assessing their own core skills related to PE. Students who aren’t able to participate in the practical aspects of the lessons are provided with assessment opportunities so that they don’t miss out on learning.
The full range of assessment opportunities including peer assessment, self assessment, teacher led assessment and verbal feedback support all students, especially those who study PE at GCSE level.
Staff were encouraged to go and observe colleagues in the PE & Health Faculty to see their approach to marking and feedback and how it drives up engagement and progress for all.
It was a great way to start the week and share some superb best practice as part of our second Marking and Feedback Fortnight of the academic year.
