Communication is Crucial

At Bushey Meads School we have a number of top teachers recognised for their outstanding skills in the classroom.  Mrs T Bevil-Gahan is one of those ‘Lead Teachers’ and gave a short but powerful ‘sound bite of best practice’ on Friday morning last week as part of our Friday Faculty Foci programme of ongoing staff development.

Highlighting the importance of great communication as a tool for learning and teaching, she reminded staff to reduce the complexity of our language when needed, ensure maximum attention is given and expected, provide visual support to strengthen and compliment the oral communication and summarise effectively to highlight the key points.
She encouraged us to continue to model learning, provide key word glossaries, displays or mats, and, above all, check for understanding to ensure gaps are closed for all students.
It made for a very positive start to the day.
