During this last term, Year 9 students have been working hard to research, design and create a pair of summer shorts.
Students were tasked with designing a pair of shorts for their peer group within the theme of ‘Festivals’ and gathered their inspiration before creating a range of design ideas.
Much to their surprise, the students were given 4 pieces of plain white fabric (not a plain pair of shorts), which have now been transformed into a beautifully dyed and decorated pair of shorts. Students gained skills such as using paper patterns, learning new dyeing techniques, block printing and stencilling, sewing on pockets, the importance of accuracy and, of course, constructing the shorts themselves.
Some students went the extra mile by bringing in their own materials to add beautiful details such as lace trims or beads. Here are just a few of the fantastic completed pieces. Well done Year 9!
