Before the half-term break, a number of A-Level biology students took part in the British Biology Olympiad, an annual competition testing students’ problem-solving skills and understanding of biological principles. Students in both year 12 and year 13 took part, giving up their time to challenge themselves and demonstrate their aptitude for biology.
Several students, all of whom are in year 12, were either commended or highly commended for their efforts. It is a fantastic achievement for students in the first year of their A-Level studies to receive such recognition in this national competition and they must receive congratulations for their success.
Special mention must, however, go to Alex and Logan in year 13, who received a gold and bronze certificate respectively, putting them amongst the top students of biology in the country. We would like to congratulate them for their incredible success.
Alex, who received a gold certificate, is now eligible to participate in selection for the International Biology Olympiad, which if he is successful, would allow him to represent the United Kingdom in the international competition.
Taking part in the British Biology Olympiad is a great way for students to showcase their understanding and abilities. It is also an excellent opportunity to prepare for university studies in biology and related fields. We are confident that the experience will inspire our students to continue their studies and further pursue their interest in the subject.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the students who participated in the British Biology Olympiad this year. I look forward to seeing more of our students take part in the competition in the future.
