It was a real privilege to welcome Laurence Brass to Bushey Meads School on Monday of this week. Many people know Laurence as a County Councillor and leading member of the Education Libraries and Lifelong Learning Cabinet Panel. He also sits on a number of other important committees and has a real heart to serve the local community here in Bushey and across the County.

He spent time at Bushey Meads talking to staff and students and was very interested in seeing the impact of our inclusive, rich and diverse curriculum. All schools teach the national curriculum but at Bushey Meads School we are always looking for creative ways to adapt the learning for all students, expanding on the quality first teaching in classrooms across the school site and enriching children’s lives further – sometimes beyond the classroom.

Laurence enjoyed meeting the cross-age group of students working on the Outdoor Education programme with Mr Smith and was delighted to hear from Travis in Year 9 about the Ed Shed and focus on growing and nurturing plants and also the pioneering work to develop an emerging bicycle repair course. He was also impressed with the outdoor fire and the cooking of hash browns!
After visiting the Outdoor Education programme, he was given a tour of our Specialist Resource Provision The Laurel by our outstanding SENDCo Mrs Seed and again spent time talking with staff and students and hearing about the impact of superb work being completed in this state of the art provision on our school site.
Laurence has been a long standing friend and supporter of Bushey Meads School and we are extremely grateful for his continued support, wisdom and advice. It was a privilege to host him here again.
