FOOTBALL
Year 10 Boys v Croxley Danes (District CUP FINAL) @ SJA Mr Cartledge
CHAMPIONS !
Date : Tuesday 19th March 2024
Result : Drew 3-3 (Won 5-4 on penalties)
Scorers : J Allan, G Guainiere, M Wong
Squad : Z Watson, J Gladdy, E Ansa Otu, B Okeke, J Allan, G Guianiere, A Worth, S Mowle, R Christou Totesaut, M Wong, K Fung, Z Bertie
Commended performances : Whole team !
Comment : The Year 10 team were crowned District Division 1 Champions after a fantastic penalty shootout win in the Final against Croxley Danes. A really strong start to the game saw the boys take a deserved 1-0 lead with a well worked goal from J Allan. The boys controlled the game for long periods of the first half but a poor last 10 minutes saw the boys concede 3 goals to trail 3-1 at the interval. After some strong words at half term the boys showed great determination and team spirit battling back with a fine goal from G Guainiere followed by a last gasp equaliser from M Wong. The boys fully deserved to take the game to penalties and it made for a very tense shootout. J Gladdy, G Guainiere, R Christou Totesaut and M Wong all scored in the first 5 penalties with both teams missing one to send it into sudden death. A penalty from S Mowle was followed by a second great penalty save from Z Watson leading to wild celebrations from the BMS team. After losing in last years Final it was a great effort by the boys. Many thanks to all the parents who gave the boys great support and encouragement.
Year 11 Boys v Grange Academy (District League) @ Parmiters Mr Cartledge
Date : Friday 15th March 2024
Result : Lost 6-3
Scorers : I Harry-Brown, K Tinriover, M McManus
Squad : A Gates, O Spencer, K Ford, F Cross, S Millbery, G Eldridge, C Tegzes, I Harry Brown, K Tinriover, A Bracewell, H Cooper, M McManus, B Hanif
Commended performances : G Eldridge
Comment : The Year 11 team came up short in their attempts to reach the District League final after a very positive opening to the game. The boys took an early lead after 20 seconds with a well taken finish from I Harry-Brown. K Tinriover added to the lead and the boys looked in control of the game. However after conceding a penalty the boys folded under pressure with some key defensive errors costing the boys any chance of winning the game.
Year 10 Sports Studies Outdoor Education trip to LEE VALLEY VELOPARK Mr Cartledge
As part of the assessment of the Outdoor Activities unit, the Year 10 Sports Studies group visited the Lee Valley Velopark at the Olympic Park on Thursday. The group took part in a Mountain Biking and BMX session led by qualified instructors. They received some technical instruction about bike handling and then completed a series of assessable tasks. The experience also provided the students with excellent experience of the benefits and skills to be gained from taking in outdoor activities which forms the basis of their next assignment. Despite being new to the sports, the group did extremely well showing great enthusiasm and desire to improve their skill level. Well done to the whole group who were a credit to the school throughout.
BASKETBALL
Senior Boys v Croxley Danes/Immanuel (District League) AWAY Mr O’Kelly
Date : Thursday 14th March 2024
Result : Imm 21 – 20 BMS / Crox 26 – 24 BMS
Squad : C Keough, K Ford, D Tegzes, N Haines, J Mortada, M Kabucha, T Sokhoo, S Fard, S Sullivan, M Simmonds, O Appa
Comment : Rather disappointingly both close games were lost at this new style tri-tournament. Losing by just a single point to Immanuel was a knock in confidence for the boys in attack as the ball was moved too slowly to break down their man to man defence. The second game came down to a last second free throw for a draw but despite the first shot being sunk for 1, the second missed the rim leading to a dead ball and a frustrating evening all round. Now on to next season with plenty of opportunities for growth in the squad.
NETBALL
District Tournament – Shield Competition AWAY Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 18th March 2024
Result : Runners up (second place)
Squad : Z.O’Brart, M.Bazile, M.Baines, L.Qarib, L.Winslett, E.Bird, I.Palan, S.Doran, V.Hill
Player of the tournament : L.Winslett, excellent work ethic and energy levels in every game – Well done.
Comment: Consistency and hard work ensured the Year 10 team took a podium place in this year’s district tournament to cap off a really good season for them.
Playing 5 14 minute games in a round robin tournament they got off to a great start against St.Margarets securing a convincing 6-2 victory. The second match saw the squad up against eventual (unbeaten) winners Croxley Danes. Having been beaten by CD in the league the BM girls started tentatively and allowed Croxley to pull away, however with a more focused second half and more belief the deficit was reduced to 3 goals at the final whistle. The final 3 matches saw the BMS team return to winning ways with a 9-4 victory against RMS, a close end to end game against St.Michaels 8-7, and a dominant 9-4 performance against hosts Parmiters. As usual the girls were a credit to themselves and the school. Mrs Cartledge and I would like to thank them all for their enthusiasm and commitment to netball in the past season and we are sure there is more to come in year 11. Great job ladies.
