Assistant Headteacher Ms Silla led our main school assemblies this week on the subject of Respect – one of our 3 Core Values which underpin our very strong ethos and culture at our school.
Her main message was ‘even if someone is disrespectful to you, show respect to them and teach them a better way’. She reminded students that most of the world’s major religions talk a lot about respect and encourage each of us to treat others how we would want to be treated ourselves – a very good life-value to live out.
She provided an example of an inspirational person Maya Angelou who, despite being seriously disrespected in her early life, went on to be a truly inspirational woman with great influence. Ms Silla highlighted one of her quotes: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
 
The assembly ended with a chance for each of us to reflect on the wisdom she had shared and a chance for each of us to make the day a better day than yesterday and to be an even more respectful person than ever before.
It was an inspirational and powerful start to the day.
