Student Leadership Week at BMS
At Bushey Meads our students contribute massively to our school community and step up to leadership roles and responsibilities across the school. They participate in Student Parliament and discuss pertinent aspects of school life, often coming up with great ideas to improve the school further. They also run clubs and contribute to the very diverse and rich wider curriculum offer at the school. Student leaders help out, not just in our school, but in the two primary schools in our Trust – often leading lessons or helping out with major school events.
This week some of our Senior Student Leaders have been leading the Main School Assemblies in the Hall. In addition, our Subject Leaders have been practising their Ambassador Roles in classrooms across the school. When Senior Leaders or visitors have entered their classrooms they have welcomed them by the door, explained the learning that is taking place and then answered any questions the visitors may have. This role really adds to our welcoming and inclusive atmosphere across the school and reminds visitors of our focus on learning and achievement.
Kush in Year 10 welcomed me to his GCSE French lesson in a very professional manner and was able to explain in some detail the work his class was completing. The two French paragraphs on the board were being translated and analysed within the context of charity in the community. I was very impressed with his role as a Subject Leader and he was an excellent ambassador for the MFL Faculty and indeed the school.
