Last Wednesday we held our Year 12 Apprenticeship Taster Day where we were delighted to welcome back former pupil Asad who spoke to the Year 12s about his apprenticeship. Asad left BMS in 2019 to go out to the workplace. Initially thinking that Business Management at University would be his pathway to Higher Education. It was great to hear Asad speak about his journey since he left Bushey Meads Sixth Form into the Finance sector of the Construction industry. It offered an illuminating insight to an alternative route from university to this career path. Making a decision to target a Higher Apprenticeship rather than University certainly gave Asad skills that he was able to use immediately in his chosen pathway.

Asad was so enthusiastic and engaging, and really promoted how apprenticeships are the right path for some students by explaining the work/study ratio and the ‘earning whilst you’re learning’ aspect. Asad held a Q & A at the end which the current Year 12 students were extremely grateful for, asking plenty of questions about the process and support he received along this route. The thoughtful questions asked by the Year 12’s really showed how attentive and inspired they were, so much so that it went on much longer than intended as so many wanted to know more about how much Asad had achieved since he left us in 2019.

We now look forward to welcoming other Alumni students back into BMS to speak with our current student cohort to share their experiences and journeys, tapping into the fantastic knowledge and experiences that our Alumni have. Our next event is due to be held in April and we are excited to build greater links as we move forward.
