On January 5th the initial applications for a Sixth Form place in September 2020 closed. This is just the first stage of applications and we can report that record numbers have applied at this point. Following our recent award of ‘Outstanding’ from OFSTED, Bushey Meads Sixth Form has become an extremely popular option for both our current Year 11 students and also for students currently at other schools.
With an initial 235 applications, we have more applications at this point in the year than ever before. One important difference between Bushey Meads and other local providers is our dedication to ensuring each student has a pathway that supports them. This was welcomed by OFSTED in November 2019 and reported as, ‘Staff work with students to carefully match courses to the needs and aspirations of each student.’
Our dedication to offering choice to students can be seen by the broad range of subjects we offer at Post 16 level. Current subject choices total 36 Post 16 courses, often many more than local providers. In addition all the students who have applied by the initial January 5th deadline with have their ‘voice’ heard in calculating the teaching timetable for next year. This is not always the case with Sixth Forms and we are immeasurable proud of the fact that we attempt to provide all students with the most tailored education possible.
The Sixth Form staff are pleased to say that all 235 students who have applied for Sixth Form will be invited to an interview. It is important that all students have the opportunity to discuss their future plans and wishes with the Sixth Form staff.
Applications will re-open in early February for September’s entry to Sixth Form. At this stage the option blocks and timetables for Sixth Form would have been calculated and any further applications will be able to select their exact choices. It is very likely that Bushey Meads Sixth Form will receive close to 350 applications in total by September and we welcome every single application.
It certainly is an exciting time for the Sixth Form staff and the students applying. Please do keep a keen eye on the newsletter for any future information.
