PE CONCEPT of the Week: RESPECT (Heart) Mr O’Kelly

The BMS PE and Health Faculty are committed to promoting an active, healthy lifestyle amongst the BMS student population. In addition we also aim to deliver a CONCEPT driven curriculum where the many varied aspects of the HEAD, HANDS, HEART assessment programme are delivered in lessons. Each week lessons have a CONCEPT focus which is taught as part of the delivery of a range of sporting activities.

This week in PE, we have been focusing on the importance of RESPECT – a core value that underpins teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship. It was truly inspiring to see our Year 7 students embracing this concept during their lesson, despite challenging weather conditions.

The session took place on a cold and wet surface, testing the students both physically and mentally. Yet, they demonstrated great maturity and respect for one another throughout. Whether it was helping a classmate back to their feet, offering words of encouragement, or maintaining a positive attitude, the Year 7s showcased how respect can flourish even in difficult circumstances.

The students also showed respect for the game by playing fairly and adhering to the rules, demonstrating their understanding that respect extends beyond individuals to the sport itself. Their ability to work collaboratively, listen to one another, and show empathy highlights the strength of our school community and its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued.

We are incredibly proud of the Year 7 students for exemplifying this week’s concept and proving that even on a cold, wet day, respect can shine through. Well done, Year 7!

DISTRICT CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The last week has seen the annual Watford District Cross-Country Championships take place at Royal Masonic School in Rickmansworth. The race days are some of the biggest sporting events held in the year and involve around 1000 students from local schools across all age groups from Years 7-13. Wednesday 13th November saw the events for Years 8 and 10. Unfortunately due to the poor weather the Year 7 and 9 events on Tuesday 19th November were cancelled.

Special mention to J Frumselu 5th who finished in the top 10 in the Year 10 Girls race. Well done to all of our students who took part in the races – all were a credit to the school showing high levels of effort and commitment.

FOOTBALL

Year 7A Boys v Croxley Danes (District Division 1) AWAY  Mr Harris

Date: Thursday 14th November 2024

Result: Won 2 – 0

Scorers: N. Cunningham, T. Kearny

Squad: J. Muraj (GK), F. Murphy, R. Gurney, T. Kearney, C. Killpack, B. Hemmings, N. Cunningham, C. Vaughan, A.Hodgson, B. Stanley, D. Hope

Commended performances: All

Comment: Relentless attacking was the story of this game. A really strong performance from the Year 7 boys, a game where we could have scored a huge number of goals if it wasn’t for the heroic effect from the Croxley Danes goalkeeper. We created lots of chances and worked the ball down the wing, through the middle and caused huge amounts of trouble for Croxley Danes, all whilst maintaining a hugely strong back line where we didn’t concede many chances, J. Muraj stepping in goal for today, was not very busy at all. An excellent performance all round, students fighting to win the ball back and create goal scoring opportunities. Well done to all students.

PE kit

It is essential that students have the full correct PE kit for all lessons. This includes shinpads and black /yellow socks when participating in football lessons and also a pair of white sports socks for all other activities. Students will be reminded when activities change. Students not bringing the correct kit will instantly receive consequence points.

Girls should be wearing plain black shorts which are longer than the length of their PE shirt or hoody. Leggings should be black sports leggings and not see through.  Black tracksuit bottoms are also permitted.

ALL jewellery should be removed prior to the start of the lesson, including earrings, and hair should be tied up.
