CyberFirst Girls Competition 2024-2025 kicks in!
It is the time again for the Yr8 girls to partake in the CyberFirst Competition 2024-2025 run by the NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre). This is the government’s initiative to encourage more girls to consider computer science as a GCSE option at school and a career in cyber security.
This year, the competition runs from 18th November 2024 to 27th November 2024. The participants would have to complete challenges online in 10 days by using their Internet searching skills and some computing knowledge. They would learn cyber security as they went through the challenges.
We have eleven Year 8 participants and they showed much enthusiasm to join this competition.
The girls have been solving problems and at the same time, they learnt new computing knowledge such as networking, encryption, Scratch programming skills, Python programming skills, Assembly language programming skills and HTML web language.
Year 13 student, Teyim teaches some basic JavaScript language to the girls so they can solve problems that relate to websites. The Year 11 student, Jamie also helps give ideas how to solve some very difficult problems.
Currently the four teams’ scores are seen in the picture below. We are looking forward to the girls’ final scores when the competition finishes
