NEWS

This half term sees all the boys in KS3 participating in rugby. The ethos of our rugby provision is very much about ensuring all students have a positive learning experience in a safe and structured environment. Contact rugby will be taught where appropriate and it is essential in this instance that all students have a gumshield for the lessons. Some groups in Year 7 and 8 will also be benefiting from some additional coaching from an RFU coach as part of the schools ongoing involvement in the RFU’s “All Schools” programme. Training for year 7 and 8 students will be on a Tuesday after school. It has been great to see the students really embrace the challenges of rugby over the last couple of weeks in curriculum PE and this has been further supported by the success of the Year 10 (Winners) and the Year 9 (Runners-Up) in the District Development Rugby Festivals at Watford Rugby Club.

The change in the weather recently has seen a drop in temperature and some comments from students regarding outdoor lessons. With the exception of very heavy rain or frozen pitches lessons will continue outside as normal. Boys should be wearing multisports tops and we also encourage students to purchase skin tops to wear underneath to provide another layer for warmth. Girls should wear the hooded BMS sweatshirts that can be purchased from the suppliers. Students cannot wear other sweatshirts/tops that are not official BMS PE uniform.

House Netball – Mrs Cooper

This week sees the start of the annual house netball competition for all girls in KS3 and KS4.  Competitions take place in PE lessons and students compete, as much as possible, in house teams in order to win points for their house.  Matches so far have been played in great spirit and it’s been lovely to see students of all abilities working together. Results or each year group will be calculated and displayed in next weeks newsletter.

Comment : Despite going down to a defeat the boys can take many positives particularly from their second half performance against a strong St Clement danes side. The boys created some good early chances but then conceded three quick goals in the first half. A spirited second half display saw the boys unlucky not to score more. Special mention to Stan B who was excellent throughout.

Comment : Another tough test was in store for the year 8A team as they faced a very strong St Clement Danes on Saturday morning. The team came flying out of the blocks and managed to take a deserved early lead. Their lead was soon doubled thanks to an excellent set piece routine that was finished of by F. Spencer. St Clement Danes then came back into the game and managed to pull a goal back through a very good set piece of their own to end the first half. Within the first minute of the second half St Clement Danes leveled the scoring. It wasn’t long before they took the lead and we found ourself behind for the first time in the game. However the team dug deep and showed great character and togetherness to equalise with nearly the last kick of the game through an excellent Chaudhry Shamas finish.

Year 8B v St Clement Danes (Friendly) – Mr Symeou

Comment :   This was a very close match between two sides that both played good football. Our boys put in a strong first half performance going in at half time a goal ahead. However, St Clement Danes really improved in the second half and were able to limit us to very few chances on the counter attack. Joshua P made some excellent saves but St Clement Danes scored two late goals and grab the win with the last kick of the game.

Year 7A v St Clement Danes (Friendly) – Mr Piper

Date : Saturday 17th November 2018

Result :  3-4 W

Scorers : Charlie M (3), David B.

Squad : Kian SM (GK). Charlie M.Lucas G.Aaron C (C).Luke D.Kyle L.David B.Noah B.Finn C.Jake S, Hadeed.

Commended performances : Charlie M & Finn C.

Comment : The boys put on a great display against a strong opposition which had us leading the game 4-1 with 15 minutes to go, thanks to a hatrick from Charlie M and a goal from David B. Two great goals in quick succession from a Clement Danes winger meant that the boys had to display their defensive abilities and see the game out in a strong fashion. This was a great test of character for this year 7 team, one which should stand us in good stead for our upcoming cup fixtures.

Year 7B v St Clement Danes (Friendly) – Mr Mitchell

Comment : Despite a disappointing final score the boys displayed great character and ability against a very strong and able opposition. It was great to see the the players teamspirit and togetherness throughout the game, which often produced very positive passages of play. After reflecting on the game the boys identified the positives to be taken from their performance and are looking forward to getting back into school for their next training session.

Comment : The Year 9 team performed well in their first rugby fixtures of the season with 2 wins and a defeat in the annual District Development rugby festival. The tournament is hosted by Watford RFC who are always on the lookout for new players as their youth section continues to expand. The boys put in some excellent performances with the final game, a narrow win over FC Academy the highlight. The boys have clearly benefited from the work with the RFU coach last year and showed technique in the ruck and improved passing and support play in the back line. Comment: Another utterly dominant display from the year 7 netball squad, who continue to work hard and go from strength to strength.  Starting strongly they dominated their opposition in the attacking third taking an early lead and building on this to secure the game was secure by the half time whistle.

It has been a real pleasure working with the year 7s this year they have adopted a really positive approach to matches and training and are keen to improve.  Well done ladies

Result : W 14-5

Squad : I.Henry, M.Aravindan, E.Walsh, E.Andrews, CJ. Lea, E.Homes, R.Hall, G.DeVenney

Commended performances: E Homes voted for by the Westfield team.

Comment: A fast paced match saw the BMS team come out as conclusive and deserved winners.  Taking an early lead the girls dominated in all areas of the court.  Interplay between E.Andrews and CJ.Lea helped provide lots of attacking opportunities in the circle which E.Homes, G.DeVenney and R.Hall converted to ensure victory.  In defence I.Henry and M.Aravindan workled hard limiting their oppositions attempts and E.Walsh helped then to bring the ball out and up to the court.  A good team effort, well done ladies.
